Of all the regions throughout the United States, the Midwest is the one that attracts the most stereotypes. I grew up in Oklahoma, so I have had a first hand experience with life in the Midwest. While most of these stereotypes are certainly warranted for certain groups in the Midwest, I think what people don’t understand is that there are plenty of places throughout the Midwest that break these typical stereotypes.
A great example of this is Dallas. While it’s not New York or Los Angeles, Dallas is the ninth largest city in the United States, and the culture that it has to offer reflects it’s position as one of the largest cities in the United States.
With three of the most well-known teams in professional sports (the Dallas Cowboys, the Dallas Stars and the Dallas Mavericks), it’s safe to say that Dallas has established its presence on the national scene. In addition to its wide variety of sports teams, Dallas is home to some of the best restaurants in the United States. Top that off with a countless and diverse amount of cultural attractions, and I can easily see how someone could make a compelling argument for Dallas being the best city in the Midwest.
